Intelligent CPS Data Analytics Platform for a Metro Rail Transport System

A DST-funded integrated analytics framework for urban mobility

This flagship initiative involved the development of a state-of-the-art Intelligent Cyber-Physical System (CPS) Data Analytics Platform specifically engineered for the complexities of urban Metro Rail networks. Funded by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), this project represents a landmark in data-driven transit management.

“Data is the new oil, but intelligence is the engine that drives value from it.”

The Challenge

Modern metro systems generate vast amounts of data-from ticketing and train operations to passenger flows. However, this data often remains siloed, preventing operators from seeing the “big picture.” The challenge was to create a unified, scalable platform capable of processing heterogeneous transit data to provide actionable intelligence for Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL).

The Solution

We designed an end-to-end analytics framework built on a Distributed Cluster Architecture, ensuring the platform could handle the massive throughput of a growing urban network.

Impact and Recognition

The platform’s success has been widely recognized in both academic and public spheres. It has moved beyond a research prototype to become a critical tool for evidence-based decision-making in urban mobility.

Media & Outreach

The project was featured in leading national publications such as The Hindu and Deepika, highlighting its role in transforming Kochi into a smart, data-driven city.
